Conservation Department Newsletter
Conservation Department presented at the Hillsdale Maple Syrup Festival and Pancake Breakfast on 5/3/09 We displayed green information and everyday “green” product alternatives, including baby products, cleaning and paper products. On sale were Greenbag compact reuseable shopping bags as a conservation fundraiser. Our children helped give out tree saplings from the department of forestry and environmental themed tattoos. We also used laptop computers to communicate environmentally friendly content and demonstrate a green educational website for children called myabodo.com. In addition we were able to share these green ideas to the mayor of Hillsdale and members town council as well as the general pancake breakfast attendees. Details of this successful presentation were reported in the May 26th issue of the Pascack Press.

GO GREEN, NJ with Clean Energy, Energy Audits and Energy Star Programs:
Visit www.cleanenergy.com to learn about these energy saving/cost saving programs.
- The CleanPower Choice Program from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities' Office of Clean Energy is a statewide program that allows you to choose clean, renewable sources of energy. By choosing CleanPower, you're choosing to support the generation of renewable energy sources that diversify our energy supply and help create a healthier environment. Solar power. Wind power. Low-impact or small hydro power. Landfill gas power. Clean power, that's good for the environment, good for the climate, and good for New Jersey. Each household that participates in the CleanPower Choice Program can avoid over 10,000 lbs. of CO2 emissions per year, which is equivalent to planting 1.35 acres of trees!*
- Energy Star Rebates: For a limited time only, get $75 or $50 back from New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program on the purchase of eligible ENERGY STAR qualified clothes washers. Also look for rebates of $20 on Energy Star in room air conditioners through Aug. 31st and $25 on Energy Star dehumidifiers.
- Home Energy Audit: Save up to 30% on energy costs and increase the comfort, safety, and durability of your home with New Jersey’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program. The program is now offering the Home Performance assessment for $250 (a $500 value) for a limited number of home assessments. Call 1-866-NJSMART today to schedule your home assessment.
- Farmer’s Market’s Opening Soon: A great way to help the environment and your health is to buy organic, locally grown produce and foods.
